August 2003 ~ This month my Journal Quilt reflects my travels. While it may look like I went to India, my actual destinations were Vancouver, BC and Phoenix. The highlight of my trip to Vancouver was my shopping expedition to the Little India district where I spent all my time and money buying sari fabric. I wanted it all, but had to limit what I brought home because of money and suitcase weight. I ended up having to pay the airlines for the extra weight, but it was well worth it.
From Canada, I flew to Phoenix. My first time in the desert. What struck me most was the landscape, the peaks; more than hills, but not really mountains, just brown pointy peaks. So very different from the east coast. I chose the color of the silk sari fabric to reflect the Arizona heat and the ever present blue sky. The heat didn't bother me at all, but I did miss the tall trees and green, green summers of Maryland.
