![]() | May 2002 ~ My art is always about putting things together in a way most people will understand. This month I wanted to try breaking things up. It’s still a very formal presentation but I actually cut up an image & turned it all around like puzzle pieces for the viewer to reconstruct. Simple, but a bold move for me. I tend to live my life in a logical, clear & orderly way – too predictable. This quilt will serve as a reminder to me to look at things from a different perspective and be open to other possibilities, logical or not. My art should be a place when I can relinquish control. I have to learn that’s it’s OK for the viewer to be engaged and bring their own interpretation to the work, rather than try to control their reactions. May signals the end of the orderly part of the year as we usher in the lazy, crazy days of summer ~ a good time for trying out new things. Let’s see where it takes me. |
