~ My sister noticed it first when looking at my latest series of Fragments. These are the colors I have been working with this winter, the reds and oranges. I think it's clear now that I go through different color periods. Inexplicably, I will find myself buying fabric in certain hues and obsessively use it in everything I do.
Spurred on by all the talk of Journal Quilt experimentation on the QuiltArt list, I wanted to stretch myself and try something more random, but as usual, I ended up with a very balanced, classical composition. I find it hard to go outside my comfort zone. I feel like things don't look right when I do. And I wonder - is it just not my style, or am I stuck in a rut? Am I afraid to grow or is this my style and I should stick with it and let any changes come naturally? I am more interested in conveying a mood and suggesting a story. I want to use fabric in unexpected ways to further my storytelling. Perhaps I should be writing!
