INSIDE OUT

Inside Out Inside Out Detail Inside Out was an exploration of quilt layers. I took a felting class from Polly Sterling and learned a technique called Nuno felt, which is light and thin and oh so beautiful. Using dyed roving, I felted the batting and made it the primary focus of the quilt. The quilt top and backing are organza. I have appliqued image transfers and dupioni silks either over or under the organza, sometimes inside, sometimes out. It challenges the viewers traditional concept of quilt layers.

On a deeper level, it also addresses how we look at other people, often judging others only by what is visible to the eye, and failing to see the inner person.

23 X 17" Hand felted wool batting, organdy overlay. Silks and image transfers. Machine applique. Machine quilted.
