RECENT QUILTS

I have just begun making quilts again in the past year. I made many traditional quilts back in the 1970's and I was always fascinated by the Art Quilts emerging at that time, but I lacked enough confidence to try one on my own.

A lot has changed in the past 25 years. I got the art training that I had always longed for which gave me the confidence to trust my own vision. Confidence also emerged as I discovered more about myself. I couldn't wait to turn 40 - I always thought my 40's would be a magical time in my life. I have not been disappointed. I am on a journey of discovery that never ceases to amaze me. The more I learn, the more I want to know.

This past year has been especially rewarding as I expose myself and my art to the world. I couldn't hold it in any longer. Anias Nin once said, "...And then the day came when the risk it took to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." I made visual reference to this quote in my quilt "Self Portrait at 47".

My voice is just beginning to emerge in my quilts. There were a few ideas I wanted to experiment with, things that I had to get out of the way while my vision was developing. I think each quilt gets closer to expressing what I want to say. I am constantly amazed that I have the opportunity and the wherewithall to accomplish my dreams through art. Part of my mission is to share what I have learned with you, so that you may begin or enrich your own journey through life. I once told a friend who was ahead of me on the journey that I loved what was happening in my 40's. She said, "Just wait till your 50's!"

Now on to the QUILTS...
